Paint the Town of Marble Falls

Paint the Town of Marble Falls

I wanted to give a shout-out to all the folks that made the Paint the Town Plein Air Festival event a success! There were many volunteers who helped during the weeklong event, Host families who put up artists (and perhaps “put up with”) in their homes, and especially Erin and Lindsey who I know were …

Fathers, Sons and Tacos!

House Portraits by Steve Miller

I have some favorite foods.  You know, those foods that are always a “go to” when you want something really good to eat. Tacos are on that list. Especially the small “street tacos”. As Thanksgiving came around this past year I received a request to paint three House Portraits for the owner of one of …

The Speech of the Created World

Plein Air in the Smokies

Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens;Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains;Your judgments are a great deep;O LORD, You preserve man and beast. How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. Psalm 36:5 thru 7 Donna and I read this Psalm one morning before we …

Western Lights of Fort Worth

12 x 9 oil on panel showing Fort Worth, Texas as the sun reflects off the high rise buildings of downtown.

Like many people, lights grab my attention. One evening in Fort Worth the sun was setting in the west, and the reflection of that sunset was in these two towers in downtown Fort Worth, as you were looking east against a darkening eastern sky. The oranges and blues compliment each other as another day fades …

U Drop Inn

Conoco gas station and U-Drop Inn Cafe on old Historic Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas

Recently my wife and I made a trip up to Shamrock, Texas to shoot some photos for a painting of the U-Drop Inn. This iconic building is perhaps the most photographed building in Texas. It sits on old Route 66, just south of I-40. “Back in the day”, this stop on Route 66 was a …

2nd Texas & Pacific Painting Complete

Recently completed the second Texas & Pacific Railroad Station oil. It is 24 x 30 on canvas. This unique building was designed in the Zigzag Modern Art Deco style, and was originally completed in 1931. The “T & P” is perhaps the city’s best example of Art Deco.
